Planet Terror (2007)
This is the second DVD released from the Grind House (2007) anthology. Robert Rodriguez did a phenomenal job on his side of the deal. Read my review for Deathproof to see my opinion on Quentin Tarantino's failure of an attempt at cult status.
This really felt like a campy 70s style campy horror film. I actually started watching this while eating dinner, and had to pause it so I could finish. There's some nastiness going on with open wounds and pus-filled abscesses in the beginning, and then the REAL gore starts.
Zombies are created after a bullet pierces a tank of military grade chemical weapons. These are the unconventional "28 Weeks Later" running zombies, not the shuffling Romero style. I'm ok with this since both the Rage virus and the DC2 gas form cannibals from the living, and do not raise the undead.
This movie was definitely gory, but I think the action and funny subplots overshadowed the carnage. I'm a sucker for a zombie flick, and I really enjoyed this one more than I anticipated. Plus, this part of the anthology actually had an ending that made sense. The Death Proof ending was just lame.
